 | Saturday, October 1st, 1966: Menke Slams 5 Hits for Baltimore It's not something you read in the sports pages everyday -- a 5-for-5 day. It may only come around once in a career -- a lot of players never have one -- but Denis Menke got one today. He scattered hits all over Memorial Stadium to pace Baltimore to a 8-3 victory over Houston. The Houston skipper told reporters in the press room, "Tip your hat to him. He hit some good pitches. According to the scouting report, Menke hit several that he is not supposed to hit." D. Menke singled in the 1st, doubled in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, singled in the 7th and hit a two-run double in the 8th. This season Menke is hitting at a .263 pace with 7 home runs, 55 RBIs and has scored 57 times. |
