After the game Hands said, "Guys have been fouling off a lot of pitches lately and I've been getting into too many deep pitch counts, but I'm pleased with the way things went today. I went right after them and stayed ahead in the count."
Up to now Hands has compiled an ERA of 3.39 with a 8-9 mark over 24 starts. He has 79 strikeouts in 159.1 innings and has held opponents to a .240 batting average. | | Saturday, August 12th, 1967: Wolverines Hitless Against Maloney How do you pitch a no-hitter and lose the game? Ask Jim Maloney of the Baltimore Huns. It happened to him today at Memorial Stadium. He did not allow the Detroit Wolverines to get a single hit, but they won the ballgame 1-0.
"I have never seen anything like it. I didn't think it was possible to lose a game, if the other team went hitless," the Baltimore manager told SION reporters after the historic event.
Maloney really zeroed in on the Wolverines in his masterpiece, finishing up with 10 strikeouts and 2 walks, but not able to chalk up the win.
He lamented, "Things like this happen in baseball. I remember pitching an 11-inning shutout, only to lose it in the 12th. I was good that day, too. Good stuff...good location...but no cigar. Just like today."
So far in 1967 Maloney has compiled a 9-18 record with a 3.88 ERA. | | | Injuries | | Player | Injury | Out for... | Disabled List Status | | CF Bobby Tolan | back spasms | 5-6 months | 20 day(s) left (60-day DL) | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 51-76, .402 PCT | | Position in Division | 7th, 19.5 GB | | Record at home | 27-35, .435 PCT | | Record on the road | 24-41, .369 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 2-5, .286 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 19-26, .422 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 19-22, .463 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 32-54, .372 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 3-7, .300 PCT | | Record in April | 9-16, .360 PCT | | Record in May | 13-16, .448 PCT | | Record in June | 15-12, .556 PCT | | Record in July | 7-19, .269 PCT | | Record in August | 7-13, .350 PCT |
