Sunday, July 29th, 1962: San Francisco Shut Out by Gallagher
All went well for Doug Gallagher of the Minnesota Empire Builders as he pitched his team to a 3-0 shutout victory over the San Francisco Missions, limiting them to 4 hits while ringing up 7 strikeouts and surrendering 4 walks.

In the postgame interview, both managers had glowing things to say about Gallagher.

His manager described him this way: "He's got a good selection of pitches he can throw at a guy. He changes speed, gives different looks to different hitters. When he's on his game, he's quite a handful."

The San Francisco skipper said, "He doesn't give you anything twice. It's a guessing game with him and today my club was always guessing wrong."

For the year Gallagher has saved 0 games while posting an ERA of 2.02 and 46 strikeouts in 80 innings. His totals also include a 4-4 record in no relief appearances.
Sunday, July 22nd, 1962: Missions Blanked by Havana
Havana starter Warren Spahn really did a number on the Missions today, shutting them out 2-0 on 4 hits in a complete game victory. He issued 2 walks and had 8 strikeouts.

In his postgame comments, the San Francisco manager said, "We didn't have good at-bats. I don't make excuses, but when we were playing the game, our energy didn't show. That comes from either extremely good pitching or extremely lousy hitting... seeing as our team has a bunch of pretty good hitters, I have to tip my cap to Warren... he did an outstanding job today."

This year in 16 starts, Spahn has recorded 8 wins and absorbed 6 losses. He has pitched 124.2 innings, allowed 121 hits, struck out 44 and has a 2.74 ERA.
Friday, July 13th, 1962: Marichal Hurls Chicago to Shutout Win
Juan Marichal of the Chicago Orphans gave the Missions a steady diet of fine pitches and he walked off the mound with a complete game shutout. He blanked them 6-0 on 4 hits with a total of 13 strikeouts and 1 walk.

The Chicago manager said, "Marichal was on quite a roll. He gets great late movement and he doesn't give in to the hitters."

This season Marichal has gone 9-6 with an ERA of 3.17, posting 110 strikeouts in 150.1 innings.
