| Breaking News | | Sunday, July 29th, 1962: San Francisco Shut Out by Gallagher All went well for Doug Gallagher of the Minnesota Empire Builders as he pitched his team to a 3-0 shutout victory over the San Francisco Missions, limiting them to 4 hits while ringing up 7 strikeouts and surrendering 4 walks.
In the postgame interview, both managers had glowing things to say about Gallagher.
His manager described him this way: "He's got a good selection of pitches he can throw at a guy. He changes speed, gives different looks to different hitters. When he's on his game, he's quite a handful."
The San Francisco skipper said, "He doesn't give you anything twice. It's a guessing game with him and today my club was always guessing wrong."
For the year Gallagher has saved 0 games while posting an ERA of 2.02 and 46 strikeouts in 80 innings. His splitter was diving, his slider was breaking and the Flyers were swinging and looking bad. In the solid 4-hit shutout the Empire Builders hurler chalked up 3 strikeouts and 1 walk in a strong outing.
"As the game went on, he got stronger," his manager said. "I thought he really turned it up a notch in the eighth and ninth and probably threw his best breaking balls in those two innings. They put a lot of balls in play early in the count because he was throwing strikes."
In 20 starts this year Friend has crafted a 8-11 record and a 3.83 ERA. | | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 44-62, .415 PCT | | Position in Division | 5th, 20.5 GB | | Record at home | 23-35, .397 PCT | | Record on the road | 21-27, .438 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 3-2, .600 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 10-18, .357 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 15-23, .395 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 29-39, .426 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 6-4, .600 PCT | | Record in April | 12-13, .480 PCT | | Record in May | 8-20, .286 PCT | | Record in June | 10-17, .370 PCT | | Record in July | 14-12, .538 PCT |
