| Breaking News |  | Wednesday, August 16th, 1967: Hands Sharp in Shutout Bill Hands of the Baltimore Huns shut down the New York Gothams 3-0 on an excellent 6-hitter, holding them scoreless while ringing up 10 strikeouts and allowing no walks.
After the game Hands said, "Guys have been fouling off a lot of pitches lately and I've been getting into too many deep pitch counts, but I'm pleased with the way things went today. I went right after them and stayed ahead in the count."
Up to now Hands has compiled an ERA of 3.39 with a 8-9 mark over 24 starts. He has 79 strikeouts in 159.1 innings and has held opponents to a .240 batting average. |  | Tuesday, August 1st, 1967: Sizemore Wins Newcomer of the Month Ted Sizemore had a fine July against Antiquity League pitchers and was acclaimed the league's Rookie of the Month today.
The New York second baseman walloped the opposition with 30 hits, no home runs, 15 RBIs and 14 runs scored. He compiled a .333 average and .400 on-base percentage.
So far this season Sizemore is hitting .251 with 2 home runs. |  | Monday, July 31st, 1967: Skowron Belts 5 Hits! Bill Skowron was on quite a roll today as he knocked the ball all over the park, collecting 5 hits and leading the Gothams to a 9-8 victory over the Los Angeles Bums.
After the first three hits, all eyes in the ballpark were drawn to him each time he stepped into the batter's box. Even a few of the opposing fans were pulling for him, knowing they were watching a little baseball-hitting history unfold.
In the clubhouse, crowded by reporters, the New York first baseman said, "I never realized that batting a little ball around could cause so much commotion." When asked what the secret of hitting so well is, he smiled and replied, "The key to hitting for a high average is to relax, concentrate and hit the ball where they ain't."
Nobody was at home today as Skowron finished the day with 5 hits in 5 at-bats and a line in the record book.
B. Skowron singled in the 2nd, hit an RBI single in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, hit an RBI single in the 6th and hit a two-run single in the 8th.
