Monday, July 23rd, 1962: 5-5 Game for Howard
History in the making. That's what the fans at MacConomy Park got to see today, when Philadelphia outplayed the Gothams 24-10. Frank Howard of the Keystones came to the plate 5 times and came away with a dynamite day as he exploded for 5 hits against New York.

In the postgame press conference the New York skipper quipped to reporters, "Hey, we tried to get him out. We threw everything but the kitchen sink against him and he hit it. Maybe we should've thrown the kitchen sink."

F. Howard hit a solo-shot off B. Veale in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 4th, doubled in the 6th, hit a GRAND SLAM off B. Pleis in the 6th and walked in the 7th.

This season Howard is hitting at a .301 pace with 34 home runs, 77 RBIs and has scored 80 times.
Friday, July 20th, 1962: Johnson Records Shutout Against New York
It was a long day at the plate for the New York Gothams. They never did figure out Ken Johnson and were shut out 6-0. The Houston hurler baffled them the entire game, yielding no runs and 4 hits in a very well-pitched outing. Johnson also totaled 4 strikeouts and 2 walks in the game.

This year Johnson has worked 142.2 innings with 83 strikeouts en route to a 9-6 record and 4.35 ERA.
Friday, June 29th, 1962: New York Befuddled by Maloney
In a sharp 4-hit performance, Jim Maloney tossed the Baltimore Huns to a 8-0 shutout victory over the New York Gothams, fanning 9 and walking 5.

"That's as good a stuff as I've seen in a long time," the New York manager said in his postgame interview.

To date this season, Maloney has a record of 9 wins and 5 losses and a 4.10 ERA. He has appeared in 16 games and struck out 110 in 112 innings.
