Tuesday, July 31st, 1962: Houston and St. Louis Agree to Deal
The Houston Colt .45s have finalized a deal with the St. Louis Flyers for the services of 30-year old first baseman Joe Cunningham. In exchange, the Flyers will receive 33-year old first baseman Steve Bilko.

This year Bilko is batting .223 with 3 home runs and 21 RBIs. In 92 games he has scored 19 times.

In the 1962 campaign Cunningham has hit at a .167 clip with 8 RBIs, 1 home run and 8 runs scored.
Saturday, July 7th, 1962: St. Louis No Match for Friend
Bob Friend was downright nasty in pitching a 6-0 shutout against St. Louis. His splitter was diving, his slider was breaking and the Flyers were swinging and looking bad. In the solid 4-hit shutout the Empire Builders hurler chalked up 3 strikeouts and 1 walk in a strong outing.

"As the game went on, he got stronger," his manager said. "I thought he really turned it up a notch in the eighth and ninth and probably threw his best breaking balls in those two innings. They put a lot of balls in play early in the count because he was throwing strikes."

In 20 starts this year Friend has crafted a 8-11 record and a 3.83 ERA.
Monday, July 2nd, 1962: Chance Out for 10 Months
Medical officials from the St. Louis Flyers reported that the club's 21-year-old starting pitcher, Dean Chance, suffered a fractured elbow in yesterday's matchup against the Boston Bees while throwing a pitch. Chance is expected to miss 10 months of action.

In 17 starts this season Chance has crafted a 8-4 record with a 3.64 ERA.
