Jim Rittwage held them scoreless in a complete game effort. He permitted 4 hits, had 7 strikeouts and allowed 2 walks.
The skipper of the Grain Growers said, "Rittwage was sharp. We never did figure him out."

The news wasn't quite as bad as initially feared, but the reliever will miss 2 weeks with a hyperextended elbow. "We feel we've dodged a bullet. When you see a guy break down like that, you worry right away," a team spokesman said. Marentette suffered the injury throwing the ball in the game against the Rivermen.

In 37 relief appearances, he has 43 strikeouts in 76.1 innings with a 2.59 ERA and 3 wins and 3 losses. |  | Friday, July 7th, 1967: Lind on Fire, 5-5 Against Topeka If the Topeka Reapers know how best to pitch the Birmingham shortstop Jack Lind they didn't tip their hand today. Instead Lind showed he knew how best to hit them as he easily handled Reapers pitching, going 5 for 5 and helping the Steelers to a 8-7 triumph at Barons Ballpark.
He told SION reporters in the postgame interview, "The way I was swinging today, I think I could have closed my eyes and hit the ball."
The Topeka skipper quipped, "Well, the next time we may just do that...blindfold him...and then pitch him differently, just to be sure."
J. Lind singled in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, hit an RBI single in the 5th, singled in the 7th and doubled in the 8th.
