Relying on pinpoint control and a good array of pitches, Dave Vineyard of the Phoenix Rattlers held the Salt Lake City Saints scoreless today. He scattered 2 hits over 9 innings and fanned 9 on his way to the 5-0 victory.
So far in 1962 Vineyard has compiled a 4-6 record with a 2.75 ERA.

A blow for Bob Allen today -- team doctors confirmed he will miss 1-2 weeks with back spasms. Allen suffered the injury throwing a pitch. Although officials from the Phoenix Rattlers are confident he'll make a full recovery, doubts will persist about Allen's ability to return fully fit with an injury of this nature.
This season he has made 24 relief appearances with 13 saves. In 25.1 innings Allen has chalked up 18 strikeouts while posting a 3-0 record and a 0.36 ERA

Red Swanson of the Calgary Cannons blanked Phoenix 6-0 on a 4-hit complete game shutout, striking out 3 batters and walking 1.
