When Fred Klages takes the hill, he's a good bet to nail down the victory for the Iowa Oaks. At least that's the way it was in May.
He excelled with a 5-1 mark and 1.39 ERA in 6 starts. In 45.1 innings, he fanned 43 and walked 15.
That's why he was honored today as the Pitcher of the Month by the ML Double A.
Year-to-date Klages shows a 9-9 record, 21 starts, 139 innings, 115 strikeouts and a 4.08 ERA. |
 | Friday, July 13th, 1962: Proctor Records Shutout Against Iowa
Jim Proctor of the Indianapolis Hoosiers worked his mound magic on the Iowa Oaks. He blanked them 7-0 on 3 hits, registering 8 strikeouts and 1 walk.
"Making good pitches is the name of the game and I made some good ones in this one," said Proctor to SION scribes after the game.
In 1962 Proctor has compiled a 8-6 mark with a 2.66 ERA in 15 starts.

| Friday, July 6th, 1962: Klages Fashions Shutout Against Senators
Fred Klages of the Iowa Oaks gave the Senators a steady diet of fine pitches and he walked off the mound with a complete game shutout. He blanked them 3-0 on 6 hits with a total of 6 strikeouts and no walks.
The Iowa manager said, "Klages was on quite a roll. He gets great late movement and he doesn't give in to the hitters."
In 17 starts this season Klages has compiled a 6-8 record and a 4.68 ERA.
