| Breaking News | | Thursday, August 17th, 1967: Bladt Batters Portland Big Time! Rick Bladt was on fire today and sparked his club to a 4-1 victory over the Seals. The Iowa center fielder was a tough out and went 5 for 5 against Portland in a fine hitting display.
"I got my pitches and I connected. They all found the right holes on the diamond. Some days you hit shots and they're right at somebody...and some days they fall in."
R. Bladt singled in the 1st, hit an RBI single in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, doubled in the 8th and hit an RBI double in the 9th.
Currently Bladt has no home runs and a .319 batting average. | | Saturday, July 29th, 1967: Great Day for Coletta! 5 Hits! 5 times is a charm -- at least in the world of baseball. When a player gets 5 or more hits in a game, he is honored in the record book and the latest honoree is Chris Coletta of the Newark Eagles.
He tore up the Iowa Oaks to the tune of 5 hits in 5 at-bats in the Newark 5-4 win today at Ballpark of Hialeah.
"Coletta was a tough out today," the Iowa manager said to the press in the postgame interview. "He hit some very good pitches with that quick bat of his. Not an easy out, that's for sure."
C. Coletta singled in the 2nd, hit an RBI double in the 4th, singled in the 6th, singled in the 8th and hit a solo-shot off D. Hughes in the 10th.
Coletta is hitting .312 this year with 1 home run, 25 RBIs and 19 runs scored. He has 49 hits in 157 at-bats, 13 walks and a .365 on-base percentage. Coletta has played in 83 games. | | Thursday, July 6th, 1967: Oliver Belts 5 Hits! On top of the Portland hit parade today was Bob Oliver. He went to the plate 6 times and marched away with 5 hits, sparking the Seals to a 19-9 victory over the Iowa Oaks. He certainly had their number at the plate in this record-making 5-6 performance.
The sweet swinging first baseman told reporters, "Each time I went to the plate, I was thinking about hitting the ball hard somewhere. When I focus on that, I usually have quality at-bats."
The skipper of the Oaks wailed to the press, "Too much plate. Not the way we planned it. Any hitter in the league will rip you when you do that."
B. Oliver grounded out in the 1st, tripled in the 4th, singled in the 6th, singled in the 7th, singled in the 9th and hit a GRAND SLAM off J. Unknown in the 9th.
Oliver is batting .314 this year with 6 home runs, 42 RBIs and 46 runs scored. He has 83 hits in 264 at-bats. | | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 64-56, .533 PCT | | Position in Division | 2nd, 2.0 GB | | Record at home | 35-25, .583 PCT | | Record on the road | 29-31, .483 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 4-4, .500 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 18-14, .563 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 20-17, .541 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 44-39, .530 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 4-6, .400 PCT | | Record in April | 12-8, .600 PCT | | Record in May | 15-13, .536 PCT | | Record in June | 14-12, .538 PCT | | Record in July | 15-14, .517 PCT | | Record in August | 8-9, .471 PCT |
