Tuesday, July 3rd, 1962: 5-7 Day for Retzer!
Who needs batting practice? Ken Retzer of Reading apparently doesn't as he battered Las Vegas with a 5-hit outburst in today's game to lead his club to a 19-5 win.

He told the press after the game, "And I didn't even take BP today. I think I have been taking too many swings before game and decided to take a day off. Wow, this was really something... a 5 for 7 day... will my name be in the record books now?"

K. Retzer grounded out in the 1st, flied out in the 2nd, hit a two-run single in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, singled in the 6th, singled in the 8th and hit a solo-shot off J. Hiller in the 9th.

Thus far this year Retzer is batting .308 with 10 home runs, 39 RBIs and 47 runs scored.
Monday, June 18th, 1962: Las Vegas's Hall Gets ALAA Player of the Week
Las Vegas's Jimmie Hall would not be denied the ML Double A Player of the Week Award for this past week. His consistent stroke, which produced 5 hits in 13 at-bats and a .385 average, made him the clear favorite to win the honor.

"You just go out there and do what you have to do," said Hall, "When I'm up, I try to focus and block everything else out of my mind...and have a good at-bat. I'm up there to get a hit or advance a runner, not to get caught up in the emotion of the moment. I hope I can win this award every week."

He also tallied 3 home runs, 9 RBIs and 5 runs scored.

This season Hall is batting .283 with 32 RBIs, 26 runs scored and 6 home runs.
Monday, May 14th, 1962: Star of the Week Named in ALAA
With some great hand-eye coordination and a sweet, compact swing, Las Vegas Gamblers third baseman Coco Laboy took the ML Double A by storm this past week to take the latest Player of the Week honors.

"The ball was looking like a beach ball all week," a happy Laboy said to SION reporters. "When it's that big, it doesn't matter where they throw it -- I can hit it anywhere."

The 22-year-old third baseman hit .517 (15-29) last week with 3 home runs, 18 RBIs and 12 runs scored.

This season Laboy is batting .331 with 42 hits and 5 home runs. He has scored 27 times and has 28 runs batted in.
