Sunday, June 10th, 1962: Detroit Reliever Out
The Wolverines received bad news this morning. Merlin Nippert will miss 8 months due to a torn tricep muscle. In the Detroit-Philadelphia game he sustained the injury while throwing a pitch. "I'm disappointed more than anything," he told reporters later in the day. "You can't help your team on the bench," Nippert sighed. "I'll do the rehab work and hope for a quick recovery."

His record so far this season is 1-and-3 with 2 saves and a 3.11 ERA. Nippert has given up 51 hits in 46.1 innings with 21 strikeouts.
Saturday, May 26th, 1962: Perry Dominates Detroit
In an impressive mound performance, Gaylord Perry of the Philadelphia Keystones checked the Detroit Wolverines on a 4-hitter and held them scoreless.

"He was getting ahead of us and keeping the ball off the plate," according to the Detroit manager.

"Perry kept us confused the whole game."

The Philadelphia hurler rang up 7 strikeouts and issued 2 walks in his 9-0 shutout victory.

Perry has gone 6-1 this season with an ERA of 2.40 and 32 strikeouts in 60 innings pitched. Other clubs are hitting .205 against him.
Sunday, May 13th, 1962: Haddix on Top of His Game
In a knockout performance, Harvey Haddix beat the Wolverines 2-0 with an impressive 1-hit shutout.

The Colt .45s hurler finished with 5 strikeouts and no walks. He showed pinpoint control and a sharp fastball.

Haddix told reporters after the game, "My arm felt good, mechanics were good and my stuff was working ...it don't get any better than this."

The Wolverines manager said, "It was a rough one for my guys. We weren't at our best...and their guy was."

Over the season Haddix has thrown 67.1 innings and dished out 32 strikeouts with a 3-4 mark and a 2.94 ERA.
