Monday, August 21st, 1967: Wolverines Lose McDowell for 7 Weeks
A blow for Sam McDowell today -- team doctors confirmed he will miss 7 weeks with a herniated disc. McDowell suffered the injury throwing a pitch. Although officials from the Detroit Wolverines are confident he'll make a full recovery, doubts will persist about McDowell's ability to return fully fit with an injury of this nature.

This year McDowell has worked 95 innings with 79 strikeouts en route to a 5-4 record and 2.08 ERA.
Saturday, August 19th, 1967: Detroit's John Shuts Out Keystones
Tommy John was dynamite today and just blew Philadelphia away in the 3-0 victory. The Detroit Wolverines starter had everything working as he hurled a 5-hit shutout over the Keystones, recording 9 strikeouts and 1 walk.

"He was pure nasty out there today. I don't think any team in the would've had a chance against what he was bringing," said the Philadelphia skipper during his postgame press conference.

This year John has a 11-9 record with a 3.05 ERA.
Saturday, August 12th, 1967: Wolverines Hitless Against Maloney
How do you pitch a no-hitter and lose the game? Ask Jim Maloney of the Baltimore Huns. It happened to him today at Memorial Stadium. He did not allow the Detroit Wolverines to get a single hit, but they won the ballgame 1-0.

"I have never seen anything like it. I didn't think it was possible to lose a game, if the other team went hitless," the Baltimore manager told SION reporters after the historic event.

Maloney really zeroed in on the Wolverines in his masterpiece, finishing up with 10 strikeouts and 2 walks, but not able to chalk up the win.

He lamented, "Things like this happen in baseball. I remember pitching an 11-inning shutout, only to lose it in the 12th. I was good that day, too. Good stuff...good location...but no cigar. Just like today."

So far in 1967 Maloney has compiled a 9-18 record with a 3.88 ERA.
