| Breaking News | | Monday, July 31st, 1967: Hot Hurler Chills Out on Rifles "Sometimes I was smart . . . and sometimes just a little lucky." That's how Ed Acosta of the Albuquerque Isotopes described his shutout victory over the Springfield Rifles. Acosta blanked them 2-0 on 4 hits while striking out 1 and walking 3.
This year Acosta has worked 111.2 innings with 67 strikeouts en route to a 6-7 record and a 2.50 ERA. | | Thursday, July 13th, 1967: Kelley Pitches Cajuns to Shutout Win According to Dick Kelley of the Shreveport Cajuns, "There are three important elements in pitching success: location, location, and location." He told his pitching philosophy to sportswriters in the postgame interview after his 1-0 victory over Albuquerque.
He blanked them on a 1-hitter, allowed no walks and had 5 strikeouts. "I really felt comfortable the whole game," Kelley said.
His manager echoed his comments, saying, "He hit his spots time and time again."
This year Kelley has a 9-6 record with a 3.00 ERA. | | Sunday, July 9th, 1967: Dobson Pitches Albuquerque to Shutout Win "That's one thing that has never changed in this game -- pitching can control hitting," the Isotopes manager told reporters after today's game.
The Steelers ran into a buzzsaw as Pat Dobson cut them down to size 1-0 with a 2-hit shutout.
His skipper added, "He knows exactly what he's doing. He's not going to throw you a good pitch until you make him throw one."
In the complete game whitewash the Albuquerque hurler doled out 3 walks and registered 5 strikeouts.
In the postgame press conference his catcher said, "Pat goes out there and just goes about his business. I don't think he gets too concerned about what's going on. You can call any pitch and you know where he's going to be."
Dobson also got some praise from the Birmingham manager.
"He really kept us in check today. Everything looked to be moving. Seemed like the pitch was right down the middle and it went over down and away... we took some pathetic swings."
In 1967 Dobson has compiled a 5-5 mark with a 2.96 ERA. | | | Injuries | | Player | Injury | Out for... | Disabled List Status | | P Jerry Robertson | torn labrum (Shoulder) | 8-9 months | Not on DL | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 59-51, .536 PCT | | Position in Division | 4th, 30.0 GB | | Record at home | 34-20, .630 PCT | | Record on the road | 25-31, .446 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 6-5, .545 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 24-19, .558 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 12-18, .400 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 47-33, .588 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 6-4, .600 PCT | | Record in April | 11-9, .550 PCT | | Record in May | 12-16, .429 PCT | | Record in June | 15-11, .577 PCT | | Record in July | 18-11, .621 PCT | | Record in August | 3-4, .429 PCT |
