| Breaking News |  | Wednesday, August 1st, 1962: Best AL Rookie Named, Nod to Williams For the last thirty days he outperformed all the other newcomers in the Antiquity League. So it was no surprise that Philadelphia's left fielder Billy Williams took the Rookie of the Month honors today.
In July he hit .350 as he ran up some impressive offensive numbers. In 26 games he collected 36 hits, 4 home runs, 13 RBIs and 20 runs scored.
So far this year Williams is batting .330 with 18 home runs, 53 RBIs and 78 runs scored. |  | Sunday, July 29th, 1962: Aparicio Strokes 5 Hits Luis Aparicio really did a number on the Keystones in the Boston 13-3 victory. Not just anyone can get 5 hits in 5 at-bats. But Luis Aparicio did just that today for the Bees and gave his batting average a healthy boost and sparked his club in the win.
"I felt real good in the batter's box today. I had confidence in my swing and knew that it was there and that I could get the job done," the 28-year-old shortstop said after his record-setting performance.
L. Aparicio singled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, hit a two-run triple in the 4th, doubled in the 6th and hit a two-run home run off G. Brunet in the 7th.
So far in 1962 Aparicio is batting .351 with 6 home runs, 42 RBIs and 80 runs scored. "Boy, Luis had a game, didn't he? It's a rare player that has the talent to hit for the cycle. It takes speed, power and maybe a little luck, too. You don't see this happen very often." the Boston manager said.
Aparicio went 5-5 on the day, raised his batting average to 1.000 and had 4 runs batted in and 5 runs scored -- and he got his name in the record book, too.
