| Breaking News | | Wednesday, August 16th, 1967: Havana Starting Pitcher Will Miss 1-2 Weeks The Havana Lefties were dealt a serious blow when the team learned that Al Downing was likely to be out for 1-2 weeks after he injured himself throwing a pitch in today's game against the Minnesota Empire Builders. A round of tests by the team doctors revealed the injury to be dead arm syndrome. Upon learning of their diagnosis, the Havana manager told the press, "As you all know, we can't control injuries--they are a part of the game. We just have to do the best we can until Al is back in action."
To this point in the season Downing has 7 wins and 11 losses and a 4.39 ERA. | | Saturday, August 5th, 1967: Lefties Second Baseman Hurt After the end of today's game between Havana and Chicago, Zoilo Versalles skipped the clubhouse and headed straight for the doctor's office. After he was removed from the game as a precaution after running the bases, the Lefties had their worst fears confirmed when it turned out to be more serious. The second baseman will miss at least 2 weeks with a strained hip muscle.
This year Versalles has socked 79 hits in 289 at-bats for a .273 average with 2 home runs. He is getting on base at a .321 pace and his totals also include 30 RBIs and 48 runs scored. | | Monday, July 31st, 1967: McGraw Sidelined, Listed DTD by Havana Havana team officials speculated whether star reliever Tug McGraw would be scratched from today's ballgame after he suffered a tender elbow in yesterday's matchup with the San Francisco Missions. McGraw denied reports that he would miss a lot of time, but added that he would not risk further injury by playing.
Looking at his season stats to date, McGraw has 4 saves in 56 relief appearances with a 8-2 record and 2.85 ERA. | | | Injuries | | Player | Injury | Out for... | Disabled List Status | | P Rick Wise | torn back muscle | 5-6 months | On DL, eligible for return (60-day DL) | | P Al Downing | dead arm syndrome | 1 day | Not on DL | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 79-48, .622 PCT | | Position in Division | 2nd, 3.5 GB | | Record at home | 46-19, .708 PCT | | Record on the road | 33-29, .532 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 3-7, .300 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 25-21, .543 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 32-18, .640 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 47-30, .610 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 6-4, .600 PCT | | Record in April | 15-9, .625 PCT | | Record in May | 22-8, .733 PCT | | Record in June | 14-13, .519 PCT | | Record in July | 15-10, .600 PCT | | Record in August | 13-8, .619 PCT |
