Tuesday, July 24th, 1962: Alou Injured, Out of Lineup 4 Weeks
Havana fans will be disappointed to learn that Felipe Alou developed a strained rib cage muscle while making a defensive play in today's game. After the doctor informed the Havana Lefties manager that Alou was expected to miss 4 weeks, the manager told the press that the rest of the team would have to step up their play until the right fielder could return. "You can't make excuses in baseball, because there's always a game tomorrow," said the team's skipper.

In 1962 Alou has put up a .281 batting average with 82 hits, 7 home runs and 52 RBIs.
Monday, July 23rd, 1962: AL Player of the Week Named
His lightning swing and solid bat took the Antiquity League by storm. All week Clete Boyer of the Havana Lefties shocked opponents with an electrifying performance to capture the Antiquity League Player of the Week honors.

The talented third baseman sparked his team by hitting .467 with 3 home runs, 8 RBIs and 7 runs scored.

Boyer is hitting .286 this season with 16 home runs, 75 RBIs and 49 runs scored. He has 104 hits in 364 at-bats.
Sunday, July 22nd, 1962: Missions Blanked by Havana
Havana starter Warren Spahn really did a number on the Missions today, shutting them out 2-0 on 4 hits in a complete game victory. He issued 2 walks and had 8 strikeouts.

In his postgame comments, the San Francisco manager said, "We didn't have good at-bats. I don't make excuses, but when we were playing the game, our energy didn't show. That comes from either extremely good pitching or extremely lousy hitting... seeing as our team has a bunch of pretty good hitters, I have to tip my cap to Warren... he did an outstanding job today."

This year in 16 starts, Spahn has recorded 8 wins and absorbed 6 losses. He has pitched 124.2 innings, allowed 121 hits, struck out 44 and has a 2.74 ERA.
